A stranded colourwork pattern of crosses, dashes and zigzags, worked in three complementary colours. This design is knitted in the round.

what you'll need

  • 4 x 100g hanks in one colour (base)
  • 2 x 100g hanks in one colour (highlight)
  • 1 x 100g hanks in one one colour (feature)

Required yarn may vary depending on size preference, see size chart at the end.

  • 1 x 3.25mm (UK 10) circular knitting needle, 80cm in length
  • 1 x 3.25mm (UK 10) double pointed needles
  • 1 x 3.5mm (UK 10-9) circular knitting needle, 90cm in length
  • 1 x 3.75mm (UK 9) circular knitting needle, 80cm in length
  • Stitch holders
  • Stitch markers in 2 contrasting colours

Gauge is 24 stitches and 36 rows over pattern to 10cm mesasured on 3.75mm needles.

LET's KNIT!

SLEEVES

Using 3.25mm needles and yarn A cast on 52 [52:56:56:60] sts.
Place beg of round marker and join to work in the round ensuring sts are not twisted.


Rib rnd: * K2, p2, rep from * to end.
This round sets rib.
Work 4cm as set, inc 1 st at end of last round.
53 [53:57:57:61] sts.
Change to 3.75mm DPNs.
Knit 2 rounds in yarn A.


Next round: K1 in yarn B, m1, beg with stitch 6 [6:1:1:5] of sleeve chart, work next 51 [51:55:55:59] sts as set on chart round 1, m1, k1 in yarn B. 55 [55:59:59:63] sts.
This round sets first and last st to be worked in background colour throughout and sleeve increases.
Take new sts into patt on round after each increase.
Working rounds 1 to 13 once then repeating rounds 14 to 23 throughout, inc 1 st as set at each end of 9 [6:10:16:18] foll 6th [4th:4th:4th:4th] rounds then on every foll 8th [6th:6th:6th:6th] round to 83 [89:97:101:107] sts.
Cont without shaping until sleeve meas 46 [46:47:47:48] cm, making a note of which patt row has just been completed.


Next round: Patt 5 [5:6:6:7] and slip onto safety pin, patt to last 5 [5:6:6:7] sts, slip last 5 [5:6:6:7] sts onto safety pin. 73 [79:85:89:93] sts.

BODY
Using 3.25mm circular needle and yarn A cast on 228 [252:276:300:324] sts.
Place beg of round marker and join to work in the round ensuring sts are not twisted

Rib rnd: * K2, p2, rep from * to end.
This round sets rib.
Work 7 [7:7:8:8] cm as set.
Change to 3.75mm circular needle.
Work rounds 1 to 68 as set on body chart once, repeating patt 19 [21:23:25:27] times around round.
Then rep rounds 69 to 78 only until body meas approx.
36 [36:36:37:38]cm, ending with pattern round to match sleeve.
For example if you finished on rounds 14 or 19 on your sleeve you need to finish with round 69 or 74, sleeve round 15 or 20 with body round 70 or 75, sleeve round 16 or 21 with body round 71 or 76 and sleeve round 17 or 22 with body round 72 or 77.

Next round: K2tog, k4 [4:5:5:6] slip these sts onto a safety pin, patt 107 [119:130:143:153], k2tog, patt to last 5 [5:6:6:7] sts.
Join body and sleeves.

Next round: K5 [5:6:6:7] and slip these sts onto a holder, K1 in yarn C, place red marker, K1 in yarn C, patt 99 [111:121:133:143], K1 in yarn C, place red marker, K1 in yarn C, place blue marker, slip next 10 [10:12:12:14] sts onto a holder, work across sleeve holder as folls:- K1 in yarn C, patt 71 [77:83: 87:91], K1 in yarn C, cont on body sts as folls:-place blue marker, K1 in yarn C, place red marker, K1 in yarn C, patt 99 [111:121:133:143], K1 in yarn C, place red marker, K1 in yarn C, place blue marker, work across sleeve holder as folls:- K1 in yarn C, patt 71 [77:83: 87:91], k1 in yarn C, place blue marker.
352 [388:420:452:480] sts.
Red markers denote body raglans and blue denote sleeve raglans.

Next rnd: K1 in yarn C, (slip red marker, k2togtbl in yarn C, patt to 2 sts before next red marker, k2tog in yarn C,slip red marker, k1 in yarn C, slip blue marker, k2togtbl in yarn C, patt to 2 sts before next blue marker, k2tog in yarn C, slip blue marker, K1 in yarn C) twice, slip red marker. 8 sts dec’d.
This round sets sleeve and body decreases.

Working raglan decs as given below and AT SAME TIME when you have completed rounds 69 to 78 once on body, work rounds 68 to 73 once ore, then change to 3.5mm circular needles and cont in C only.

Work 4 [6:8:8:8] rounds, dec 1 st at each raglan edge on every round. 312 [332:348:380:408] sts.

Work 4 [8:12:18:24] rounds, dec at body raglan edges on every round and at sleeve raglan edges on alt rounds.
288 [284:276:272:264] sts.
Work 32 [30:28:26:24] rounds, dec at each raglan edge on alt rounds, changing to 3.5mm DPNs if necessary.
160 [164:164:168:168] sts.
You should have 1 st at each raglan ‘spine’, 51 [53:53:55:55] sts to front and back and 27 sts to each sleeve.
Short row shaping for neck
Now work in rows as folls:-
Next partial rnd: K17 [17:18:18:18], wrap next st and turn (when working back across wrapped sts work wrap together with st), turn, p144 [148:149:150:150] (you
should be 16 [16:17:18:18:18] sts away from RS wrap st), wrap next st and turn.
Next 2 rows: Dec 1 st at raglan edge as set ad AT SAME TIME knit to 4 sts before last RS wrapped st, wrap next st and turn, purl to 4 sts before last WS wrapped st, wrap
next st and turn.
Rep these 2 rows twice more. 136 [140:140:144:144] sts.
Next 2 rows: Working raglan decs as set, knit to 6 sts before last RS wrapped st, wrap next st and turn, purl to 6 sts before last WS wrap st, wrap next st and turn, knit
to beg of rnd marker. Please note on these 2 rows you will not be working decreases on the front body or sleeve raglans. 132 [136:136:140:140] sts.
Knit 1 rnd.
Change to 3.25mm needles and yarn A.
Knit 1 rnd and AT SAME TIME dec 4 [4:0:4:0] sts evenly across rnd. 128 [132:136:136:140] sts.
Rib rnd: * K2, p2, rep from * to end.
This rnd sets rib.
Work 8 rnds more in rib as set.
Cast off in rib.
MAKING UP
Join underarm seams, using Kitchener stitch.
Pin out garment to measurements given above, cover with damp cloths and leave to dry.
